What to expect

The most reliable roost in Ireland, with up to half a million birds at the peak in December and January. Flocks stream in from every direction for half an hour before they settle in the reeds.

Where to stand

The shore by Carrick Wood. The display shifts along the lake from night to night, so ask the people already there where it was last night.

Parking and access

Crowds most evenings in season. Park only in marked spaces and never across gates or farm entrances.
